Strategy games can be quite complex as they usually have a larger number of units to control, level and gear. Fire Emblem Engage focuses more on the combat side of the equation Three houses, so growing your team throughout the game is vital. Instead of just having a linear experience and leveling system like most normal RPGs, Fire Emblem Engage continues the tradition of having a class system where each unit can level up and change into different classes with different skills, strengths and weaknesses. With dozens of options between Basic, Advanced, and Special classes, it’s hard to know which ones are the best. Let’s go over some of the best options for each type.

Best Alear class

We will feature Alear as your player character because they have the absolute best class in Divine Dragon. Exclusive to them, this class skill, Divine Spirit, reduces their engagement counter by one, has A in Sword proficiency and B in Arts, and high base stats.

Best base classes

The base classes aren’t classes you’ll want to stick with long-term, but they’re necessary to get to higher levels, and there are still some that are better than others to invest in.

Dragon Child:

Alear’s starter class isn’t one you’ll want to switch from unless you’re really desperate. There is no other class with better stats than the sword, and the stats are spread out pretty well, with an emphasis on HP and strength most of the time.

Sentinel

There are only two Bows that use base classes, and we went with Sentinels as the better choice of the two. They both have a B rating with Bows, but the Sentinal’s stats, particularly HP and Defense, are much more viable than the Archer’s. Of course, you ideally wouldn’t want your ranged unit to take hits, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Lance Armor:

For an early tank, Lance Armor can do the job well enough. Obviously they will use Lances, but their real utility comes from their very high defense stat. Their only drawback is their almost non-existent resistance to Magic. If you can play around it, this is a great unit to throw in the frontline.

Magician

In terms of early Magic units, Mage is about as pure as it gets. With Tomes alone, this unit is going to hit any enemy with high defense thanks to its excellent magic stat. They’re kind of a glass cannon though, so don’t expect them to survive a lot of punishment if you send them out unguarded.

Best advanced classes

Advanced classes are where you will store most of your points Fire Emblem Engage. These classes have requirements to pass, but are orders of magnitude better than any Basic level class.

General

Considered one of the best all-around advanced classes, the General is a tank that can be used by any team composition. His primary weapon proficiency is A with swords, but also has various A skills with both spear and axe, making this class easy on multiple characters. As you can guess, this class has high HP and defense stats, as well as a unique swap skill that allows you to switch places with a neighboring ally to land an incoming hit for them.

Wyvern Knight

An airborne class that is the perfect support unit, the Wyvern Knight’s only downside is its weakness to ranged and magical attacks. With a good balance of HP, Strength, and Dexterity, the main advantage of this class is that they can easily cross the battlefield and attack with spears, axes, or swords with B-level skills. Their unique skill is Air Raid, which pairs perfectly with this perk. Starting combat on a tile where the opponent cannot move, this unit will gain a +5 scale to its speed during that combat encounter.

Lindwurm

Another flying class, albeit exclusive to Ivy, this time the Lindwurm gains S rank weapon proficiency with Tomes and B with Staffs. Unlike many other magic-focused classes, the Lindwurm maintains good HP and defense stats. Grasping Void, their exclusive skill, allows you to have a percentage chance based on your unit’s Dexterity to deal additional damage equal to your target’s magic stat when attacking with a tome.

There are only three Special classes, so why not cover them all?

Thief

Despite how you might normally think of using the thief class, this time around the Thief actually works best as a tank-like frontline unit. Instead of just absorbing hits, your Thief will make and dodge attacks. Of course, the thief has S-rank Knife proficiency and very high Dexterity and Speed ​​stats. Their exclusive skill is Pass, which allows this unit to move through other units without going around them for easy edges.

A dancer

The Dancer is somewhat similar to the Thief with high Dexterity and Speed, but is an A-rank Arts user that is more support oriented. An example of this is the Special Dance skill, which targets a unit to deal +3 Dexterity, Speed, and Luck per turn.

Fall Child

This is a class exclusive to Veyle, but perhaps the strongest Mage class in the game. Packing an S rank in Tomes, but also a B in Knives, it has the same skill as a Divine Dragon, which is fitting since they’re both Dragon-type classes. This skill automatically refills this unit’s Engage meter once per turn.
