SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – MGM Springfield has received approval from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to operate their in-person betting platform, the 2nd in-person sportsbook in the Bay State. Now, the casino’s online betting partner is seeking the same approval to bring sports betting to your mobile device.

With the possible approval of their online application for BetMGM, sports betting in Springfield can be as easy as the touch of a button.

Representatives from sports betting app BetMGM have filed with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to open their online sports betting app in Springfield.

BetMGM’s Senior Compliance Officer Sarah Brennan told the Gambling Commission about the growth of their online betting platform since 2018.

“As the industry continues to evolve and grow, and market penetration in the US continues to grow, BetMGM now operates in 25 jurisdictions,” he said. “Over the past few years, online sports betting has reached 41% of the US population, and we currently have 31 market access agreements across the US.”

Throughout the meeting, commissioners questioned BetMGM on a number of topics, including the company’s diversity and inclusion, app interface and bettor safety, including introducing features that would limit bettor monthly deposits.

“My deposit limits, we offer a daily limit and a monthly limit,” said BetMGM Technical Management Director Roman Rubas. “I currently have a limit of $5,000. If I decide to remove it, I can uncheck this box and send it. Then I get a message saying it checked out successfully.”

Commissioners pointed to a major gap in customer support available over the phone and requested that the app offer 24/7 customer support to its users.

“Rich Taylor, as you heard earlier, has developed a very good SOP for CS escalation,” Brennan said. “Players who either threaten to harm themselves, harm the establishment, or engage in problem behavior through irresponsible gambling.”

If approved, BetMGM could be available to bettors by March 2023.
