BEDFORD, N.Y. (WABC) — A cell phone tower battle is brewing in Westchester County, and actor Richard Gere is in the middle of it.

They’re tall and ugly, but cell phone towers play a crucial role in today’s world.

The affluent community of Bedford is under a court order to build one to close coverage gaps that could hinder first responders.

The vantage point is the top of a ridge on the property of the Bedford Post Inn, owned by actor Richard Gere.

Celebrities and sports stars who live in the area want to find another location for it, but the Bedford Planning Board has rejected two other proposed sites.

The proposed tower would be covered in fake pine boughs that would rise at least 13 stories, spoiling the views of some of the rich and famous residents.

The City Planning Board is considering the site after rejecting two other sites stretching back to 2016.

Roxanne Spruance is in the unprecedented position of fighting the proposed site for the tower.

He lives next door but happens to own the pub’s restaurant, making Geer and his business partner his landlords.

Spruance notes that the construction could disrupt Native American stonework, while other residents paid for their own feasibility study, arguing that a shorter, less disturbing thin bar could provide the same coverage.

The public has until next Wednesday to comment. the vote is expected at the beginning of January.
