A fatal crash on I-15 near Mojave Drive in Victorville has closed the freeway

VICTORVILLE, CA (VVNG.com) A fatal crash on Interstate 15 in Victorville closed all lanes Sunday afternoon, backing up traffic for several miles.

California Highway Patrol logs report that the crash was reported on the 15 Freeway South near Mojave Drive and involved a single vehicle that was driving recklessly before the incident.

The accident occurred on January 15, 2023 at 3:13 p.m., and involved a maroon Lexus sedan that sustained extensive damage during the collision, causing the male driver to be ejected.

The Victorville fire service arrived at the scene and reported that the driver died from his injuries.

About an hour before the incident, witnesses reported that the driver cut in and out of the travel lane onto Field Road and swerved into the slow lane, according to CHP logs.

As of 3:27 p.m., all traffic lanes were closed for an unknown amount of time, but traffic is being detoured at the center divider.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
