This is your place to check updates and comment on the Washington Capitals vs Detroit Red Wings game on December 17, 2022.

The Washington Capitals were one of the toughest tickets in town on Monday. The Caps host the Detroit Red Wings as Alex Ovechkin tries to tie or pass Gordie Howe for second on the all-time scoring list for the third time.

Two of Howe’s children, Mark and Martin, will be at Capital One Arena for the game. Expect wild anticipation from the crowd any time Ovechkin gets a good chance in the game and more Ovi chants.

Does he get a story tonight? I think so. But you’ll have to watch along with us to find out.

Tonight’s game is on NBC Sports Washington and aired nationally on the NHL Network. After 19:00 puck drop is a little. The Capitals are wearing their blue W alternates tonight.

1st round

The capital cities start from Milano-Kuznetsov-Mantha and Orlov-Jensen. Charlie Lindgren takes on Will Husso.

🚨 1-0 Red Wings. Nick Jensen makes a terrific turn for David Perron, who easily takes the goal. The first goal at 7:30 didn’t help. That’s not how I expected it all to start in my head.

🚨 2-0 Red Wings. Oskar Sundqvist scores on the power play after an incredible dunk through Jonathan Berggren’s crease.

Power play for Washington begins with 34.2 seconds left. This is:

Capitals outshoot Red Wings 10-6 and beat them 5v5, 17-13. The Red Wings have a slight advantage in expected goals, 0.63 to 0.62.

2nd period

John Karlsson has shots but no goals in this period.

Yevgeny Kuznetsov draws a penalty…trying to ice his finger? Capitals of the government are playing again. This time for the Red Wings, who have too many players on the ice.

IN THE CASE OF OVI. OMG OFF POST!

🚨 2-1 Red Wings. Nick Dowd finally defeated Huso with a perfect shot. Erik Gustafsson nearly blocked a shot sliding through the crease. Why was he playing so low???? The goal comes at 15:35.

🚨 2-2 Red Wings. Nick Dowd scores again 11 seconds later on the same shift. Covers entry into the zone seemed to hit the net. There was no repetition. The officials did not withdraw it.
