Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Patrick Mahomes injured his ankle in the divisional game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and was initially questionable to return, he returned in the second half and played the rest of the game, helping the Chiefs to 27. -20 wins. After the game, Mahomes said there were no official predictions and insisted he would be good to go in the AFC Championship Game.
Mahomes had an MRI on Sunday that showed the injury was a high ankle sprain, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones reported. Mahomes insists he will be ready to go for Sunday’s title game.
In the first quarter Saturday, the quarterback landed on his feet and landed on the quarterback’s right ankle, which twisted as he landed. Mahomes limped and ran toward the sideline but stayed in the game for the time being, ultimately with his ankle taped up.

The ankle twist is evident in the replay as the Jaguars’ Travon Walker and Andre Sisco tackled the quarterback.
Mahomes eventually went to the Chiefs locker room early in the second quarter, visibly upset that he had been taken out of the game. He was replaced by backup Chad Hahn. 37-year-old ex-Jaguar who hadn’t started a game in eight years. Hehn took over at the 1-yard line with the Chiefs backed up and had a long, spectacular drive that ended with his first postseason touchdown.
Mahomes was the first Chiefs player out of the locker room after halftime, and after throwing a few warm-up throws, he returned for the first drive of the second half and didn’t come out again. At times it looked like he was still limping.
Mahomes addressed, not wanting to leave the game after the win.
“Yeah, I didn’t want to go and they gave me an ultimatum that I’m not coming back until I get in there, so they’re trying to look after me, we’ve got a lot of great people here, but it’s going to take a lot from me away from playing football to keep,” he said.
He also complimented Han, saying: “Chad Hahn, man, he’s been in the building every day. He’s made me a much better quarterback the way he’s teaching me and is just the most prepared quarterback of all time.” that his touch was the difference maker in the game.

Mahomes was 12-of-15 for 84 yards and one touchdown before going out with the injury. He finished the game 22-for-30 for 195 yards, two touchdowns, a 73.3 completion percentage and a 112.5 passer rating.
