ARLINGTON, Texas — Ty Hilton’s introduction to the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t have gone better as it came in perhaps the darkest moment of their game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

After Dak Prescott was sacked on back-to-back plays and the Eagles trailed 34-27 facing third-and-30, Hilton hauled in a 52-yard reception while being contested by cornerback Darius Sly.

“Third and 30,” Prescott said with a smile. “Find TY”

Four plays after Hilton’s catch, CeeDee Lamb had her second touchdown reception of the game, a 7-yarder that tied the score with 5:49 to play. The Cowboys (11-4) would kick two more field goals for a 40-34 win against Philadelphia (13-2), keeping alive their faint NFC East title hopes at two games and perhaps giving them a confidence boost if the opponents. meet again in the playoffs.

“It’s amazing, and it gave us a spark,” Hilton said. “If I can do it, the sky’s the limit for us.”

Hilton said he had a feeling before the ball was hit. When the Cowboys ran that play in practice, Prescott went to him several times. When Slay turned his sights on the quarterback and not on himself, Hilton, who only joined the Cowboys on Dec. 12, felt better.

“The ball just went and I said, “Well, here we go,” and that’s what I do, man. I just make plays,” Hilton said. “That’s why I’m here. continue to make plays, continue to lead those guys and help them as much as I can. And when I get out there, just show me I’m still here.”

Leading off the game, Hilton, 33, said he could still run. His 2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts was cut short by injury, but after watching his kids play football over the summer and fall, he said his body felt rejuvenated.

Hilton then took to Twitter to wonder if the catch was his “welcome to Dallas moment.”

“That’s a guy who’s had a lot of success in his career,” Prescott said. “Had a long career and was very, very successful. In fourth place [earlier in the game], I went to him and he took a picture of the holding bell. Right here on third and 30 yeah he was even with him when I was releasing it and I knew to throw air under it. I knew he would go to film a play and it would be either that or unfinished. He obviously went and caught it.”

The third-and-30 conversion was the longest in the NFL for a third down since Week 2 of the 2020 season, when San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon went for a 55-yard run on third-and-31, according to ESPN Stats. & Information Research.

Over the past 10 seasons, Hilton is tied with Tyreek Hill and AJ Green for the second-most receptions of at least 50 yards with 17.

Saturday’s contest was Hilton’s first in 2022. He was inactive against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

Over the past few months, the Cowboys’ main focus has been on potentially adding free agent Odell Beckham Jr. He visited the team and met with the medical staff, coaches and players. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has often expressed optimism that Beckham will join the Cowboys and contribute once the playoffs begin.

Hilton fumbled almost covered, training so well that the Cowboys stopped him halfway, knowing he still had juice.

“This is a people business,” Dallas coach Mike McCarthy said. “Obviously, TY is extremely talented, extremely proven. He’s played at a Pro Bowl level for a number of years, so obviously these types of situations are unique, (A) for him to be available and then the opportunity to get a deal done. You couldn’t find anything but extremely high praise for him because of the phone calls made. He was everything plus.”
