Jalen Hurts has a sprained throwing shoulder and his status is in doubt for Saturday’s NFC East game against the Dallas Cowboys. according to multiple reports.
It hurts the injury is believed to have occurred on a fumble by Chicago defensive end Travis Gipson in the third quarter of Sunday’s 25-20 win over the Bears. He stayed in the game and capped off a fourth-quarter scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.
Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew is expected to play against the Cowboys and as long as Hurts is out. Minshew is one of the most experienced backup quarterbacks in the NFL, making 22 starts in 30 NFL appearances with the Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hurts emerged as an MVP candidate in his third NFL season while leading the Eagles to an NFL-best 13-1 record. He is averaging a career-best 248 passing yards per game while also throwing 22 touchdowns and five interceptions in 14 starts. He has made significant jumps in his accuracy in each of the last two seasons, with a career completion rate of 67.1%, topping his 61.3% mark in 2021. season
