Former New England Patriots quarterback and current NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest was arrested Monday in West Hollywood, California, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The arrest is related to a Dec. 9 incident at an area club, authorities said. Witnesses identified McGinest as being involved in the alleged assault.

McGinest, 51, arrived at the sheriff’s station Monday to give a statement and was later taken into custody. He posted a $30,000 bond and was released later in the morning, the sheriff’s office said.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

NFL Network said in a statement sent to several media outlets that McGinest will not appear on the air while it reviews the matter.

McGinest played for the Patriots from 1994-2005 and was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2015. He originally joined the team as a first-round pick out of the University of Southern California in 1994, the fourth overall pick that year. and was on three Super Bowl championship teams.

He ranks third in team history with 78 sacks and owns the NFL record with 16 career postseason sacks.

He spent his last three NFL seasons (2006-08) playing for the Cleveland Browns.
