Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame shooting guard Kobe Bryant has always been known for his signature line of Nike sneakers. Now Brooklyn Nets All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, a shoe-free rookie, may surpass Bryant’s shoe legacy.
Bally Sports’ Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson recently spoke with Sia Collective apparel mogul Devlin Carter about Irving potentially surpassing the Lakers in a big way; He did that with Nike before the Oregon sportswear giant and seven-time All-Star parted ways with the company late last year because of Irving’s recent behavior.
Carter essentially reached out to Irving through a conversation with Robinson.
“Well, I’m not trying to sign Kyrie Irving, I’m trying to work with Kyrie Irving,” Carter said. “Kyrie Irving is a global brand because Nike’s marketing… We are a United States brand, we are an American brand. And we do very good sales, but we are not a global brand, are we? With Kyrie, you now have the power to do what Kobe wanted to start.
“My point is, if you really want to do it, you need a creative director,” Carter continued. “I can give you all those things, I can design, I can give you the factories.”
Irving is on track to make his eighth All-Star Game as he has acquitted himself swimmingly on and off the floor since returning from the Nets’ eight-game suspension.
