Los Angeles Lakers backup swingman Sterling Brown’s current 10-day contract expires tonight.
In his four games with Los Angeles so far, the 6’5″ vet has yet to score a point, but he is averaging two rebounds and 0.8 steals per six minutes. He will have another chance to show his strength. tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers before Los Angeles has to decide whether or not to sign him to another 10-day deal.
First-year Los Angeles head coach Darwin Hamm gave a nonchalant response when asked about Brown’s future with the franchise after Saturday’s team workout, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin .
“It depends on our health and what we feel comfortable doing and taking as the next step,” Hamm said.
Under NBA rules, the Lakers can sign Brown to another 10-day contract before the team has to decide if it wants to move him through the 2022-23 season.
For his career, the 27-year-old out of Southern Methodist University averaged 5.3 points on .419/.363/.796 shooting, 3.3 rebounds and one assist. In his previous five years in the NBA, Brown played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. Prior to his current career with the Lakers, he played for the Raptors 905, the G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors.
