VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Jordan Kirou scored three goals for his first career hat trick and had an assist as the St. Louis Blues beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 on Monday night.
Robert Thomas had a power-play goal and an assist and Nathan Walker scored his first goal of the season for the Blues, who won their fourth straight and fifth in seven games. Vladimir Tarasenko had three assists, Nicky Leddy had two assists and Jordan Binnington blocked 33 shots.
Ilya Mikheev scored for the Canucks, who lost their third straight at home, dropping to 5-9-1 on the season. Spencer Martin made 22 saves.
Kirou scored twice in the third period, giving him six goals in three games and 10 points in the last four.
Kirou gave the Blues a 4-1 lead with 1:07 left on the power play at the 3. He made it 5-1 with a wrist shot at 9:19.
The first period was scoreless with both goaltenders making big saves. Binnington denied Brock Boeser on a power play layup, while Martin faced an Alexey Toropchenko puck through traffic.
The teams scored three goals in 2:37 midway through the second period.
Kiru opened the scoring with 9:35 left. Martin stopped a hard shot by Leddy, who got his own rebound and passed it to Kyrou.
The Canucks tied the score 1:39 later after Mikheev took a pass from defenseman Quinn Hughes, got around the Blues’ defense and forced Binnington to tuck the puck into the far corner.
Walker made it 2-1 for St. Louis with just under 7 minutes remaining on a shot that went over Martin’s glove.
Thomas gave the Blues a two-goal lead on the power play with 1:10 left in the period when he took a pass from Pavel Buchnevich from outside the circle and into the top corner of the net.
