Whoopi Goldberg has doubled down on comments that the Holocaust was “not racial,” which she made before she was suspended from hosting the television talk show “The View” in February.

In a new interview with The Times of London, Goldberg said the Holocaust “wasn’t about race in the first place.”

“Remember who they killed first. They killed physically, not racially. They killed people they thought were mentally retarded,” he said.

He also questioned whether Jews were a “race” compared to himself as a black man.

“It doesn’t change the fact that you can’t tell a Jew on the street,” Goldberg said. “You could find me. You could not find them. That was the point I was making. But you’d think I took a big old stinky dump on the table, bare ass.”

The Nazis defined the Jewish people as a race and killed six million people in an attempt to exterminate them, according to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

When Goldberg was asked about the Nazis classifying the Jewish people as a race, he replied:

Goldberg made his initial comments about the Holocaust on “The View” on January 31, discussing a Tennessee school board’s decision to ban Art Spiegelman’s graphic novel Maus, which is about the Holocaust.

He said the Holocaust was “white people doing it to white people” and not about race but “man’s inhumanity”.

After the comments, Goldberg drew widespread criticism, which led to him issuing an apology at the time.

“I’m sorry for the pain I caused,” Goldberg said in a statement following his comments. “As Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazis’ systematic extermination of the Jewish people, who they saw as an inferior race.’ I’m fixed.”

Neither Goldberg nor representatives for “The View” immediately responded to Insider’s request for comment.
