Fleetwood Mac’s most famous lineup includes Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. In a 2022 interview with The Guardian, Christine McVie shared that she believed the “era” centered around Nicks and Buckingham was the band’s best period.

Fleetwood Mac was originally formed by Fleetwood, Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. When Nicks and Buckingham joined the group, they were dating, and they broke up during their tenure in the group.
Christine McVie and John McVie married and divorced during their time in the band, and Fleetwood and Nicks briefly had an affair together. Even with the interpersonal drama within the group, Nicks and Buckingham’s past relationship is usually the most popular among fans.
Speaking to The Guardian in June 2022, Christine McVie admitted that the “era” with Nicks and Buckingham was her favorite.
“I’d be a fool if I didn’t tell Stevie [Nicks] and Lindsay [Buckingham] era because it was quite sensational. We had our fights here and there, but there was nothing like the music or the intensity on stage,” Christine McVie shared.
How Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham Joined Fleetwood Mac
Speaking to The Guardian, Christine McVie shared her perspective on when Nicks and Buckingham first joined the band.
“We weren’t doing anything in Britain, so we just traveled to America and fell into this huge musical odyssey. Stevie and Lindsey played as a duo and made a great record [Buckingham Nicks]which I still really love, but I didn’t go very far,” he told The Guardian.
Christine McVie continued. “I think it was Mick [Fleetwood] who invited them to meet us. We all met at this Mexican restaurant, had a few margaritas and decided to go. We all walked into this little rehearsal room and it just went off like firecrackers.”
Christine McVie died in November 2022
Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. After his dismissal, the guitarist blamed Nicks for his departure.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Christine McVie said she “missed” Buckingham while in the band. An evening with Fleetwood Mac tour.
“I always wish Lindsey would come back,” Christine McVie said. “He’s the best. Neil and Mike were such a happy couple, but Lindsey was missed.’
On November 30, 2022, it was announced that Christine McVie had died at the age of 79. Fleetwood Mac was on hiatus at the time of his death and issued a statement.
“There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. He was truly unique, special and immensely talented. He was the best musician they could have had in their band and the best friend they could have had in their lives,” Fleetwood Mac said in a statement.
The announcement continues. “We were so lucky to live with him. Individually and together, we cherish Christine deeply and are thankful for the wonderful memories we have. He will be missed so much.”
