Billie Eilish brought out Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl for a moving tribute to Taylor Hawkins at her Los Angeles show on Thursday night.
Elish was performing at the Kia Forum arena when he invited Groh to the stage. Grohl recalled the 2022 Grammys, where Eilish performed onstage wearing a Hawkins T-shirt, just weeks after the longtime Foo Fighters drummer died unexpectedly at age 50.
“Earlier this year, all the Foo Fighters and our families gathered at my house to watch the Grammys, and when Billy came out to perform in a Taylor Hawkins T-shirt, the room was filled with real tears of love and gratitude. Grohl said. “From our families that are here tonight, from the Hawkins family and everyone, I want to say thank you very much today.”
“Let’s sing for Taylor,” he said.
The pair performed a duet of “My Hero”, a track from Foo Fighters’ 1998 album The Color and the Shape.
Hawkins died in March in Bogota, Colombia, hours before the Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform at a music festival. His sudden death prompted an outpouring of tributes from musicians and fans around the world.
Grohl wasn’t the only special guest at Thursday’s concert. Eilish also brought out indie singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, who performed “Motion Sickness.” And on Friday night, Khalid and Childish Gambino joined him on stage.
