Al Brown – of ‘The Wire’ fame – has died… according to his loved ones.
The actor’s daughter JennyTMZ tells … Al died Friday in Las Vegas after a battle with Alzheimer’s. He tells us that before he started acting in the ’90s, he was a 29-year-old Air Force vet who served two tours in Vietnam… so he served with honor.
Jenny also says that Al loved his fans and was happy to stop and talk to anyone who might have known him from the show over the years; stating that he loved his job.
Ali is best remembered for playing Colonel Stan Walcheck on the hit HBO show in the 2000s. In the series, he was a high-ranking Baltimore PD official who was often portrayed as somewhat corrupt… who would give the main character cops a hard time in their investigations.
Valchek was a recurring character in all five seasons of “The Wire,” but played a major role in Season 2 … when he dealt with dock workers who mixed up with the Greek mob. His image was presented as a proud Polish-American.
A great role, and Brown played it well for years. In addition to her work on HBO, she has also appeared in other shows such as Rescue Me, The Trial, Law & Order: and others.
Al even had some notable films in his repertoire…playing small roles in The Replacements, 12 Monkeys, Put Your Favorite On, Red Dragon, Liberty Heights, and more. He had a knack for playing hard-boiled cops and law-enforcement agencies… and met them with justice every time.
He is survived by his children and extended family. Al was 83 years old.
