There have been so many revivals old (and oldeh) shows or movies these days, it’s not a question of if, but when Something from your childhood is being pulled out of the attic to become part of a new flagship streaming service. (Let’s assume it isn’t be canned average production anyway). And the next show to get a revival isn’t any other Disney Channel show Phineas Ferb.
Revealed earlier this week at the Television Critics Association Winter Tour, Disney has given a 40-episode order to the ongoing series, split over two seasons. Currently, original series co-creator Dan Povenmire is helming the new series, and talks are reportedly underway to lock down co-creator Jeff “Swamp” Marsh. Voice actors on social networks Vince Martella (Phineas) and Dee Bradley Baker (Perry the Platypus) have confirmed their involvement with the revival.
Phineas & Ferb: originally premiered in 2007 and starred half-brothers who were also a genius pair of inventors. With 104 days of summer vacation, Phineas and Ferb built ridiculously extravagant props and events that always disappeared. just when their parents returned home, much to the chagrin of their older sister, Candace. All at the same time that takes place, their pet platypus Perry saves the world as a secret agent… who is also a platypus. It was a show big and lasted through 2015, spawning two films (and potentially a third in production), a live tour, and at one point a live-action film was planned. If you’ve asked someone to name a Disney Channel or Disney XD show from their childhood, there’s a good chance Phineas & Ferb: would be one of the first names thrown out.
After the show ended, Povenmire and Marsh moved on to the ongoing show, Milo Murphy’s Law which ran for two seasons and featured some of the characters from the maternity show. Series of 2022 Hamster and Gretel (created exclusively by Povenmire and received a second season renewal alongside Rebirth) also takes place in the same universe, but crossover Hamster and neither of the other two shows have yet.
