CJ Harris, former “American Idol” contestant, has died at the age of 31

CJ Harris, known as a standout performer on “American Idol”, has died. He was 31 years old.

The “American Idol” team confirmed the news on social networks and expressed sincere condolences on Instagram.

“CJ Harris was an incredible talent and we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing,” they wrote. “He will be truly missed.”

The cause of the musician’s death was not immediately announced.

Harris, who now lives in Jasper, Alabama, participated in the reality TV show’s 13th season and finished in sixth place. Caleb Johnson went on to win the series, which aired in 2014.

Following her debut ‘Idol’, Harris released her debut single ‘In Love’ in 2019.

Sam Wolff, who finished fifth on the show, recalled competing with Harris in a tribute to the late singer.

“Cj was such a genuine and loving person,” she wrote on Instagram. “We became close friends during the show and were roommates on tour.”

He added: “I’m so grateful to have had that incredible experience with him alongside Caleb and Alex. My thoughts go out to his family. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Third-place finisher Alex Preston shared a photo with CJ, Sam and Caleb standing outside on the tour bus.

He wrote: “RIP CJ. I can’t believe this, I woke up and thought it was a dream. I love you, friend. I will always remember the good times we all had.”

Caleb recalled being roommates with CJ during “Hollywood Week” and formed a brotherhood with Sam and Alex.

“So many amazing memories and experiences with you CJ. Life is so fragile. I’m so grateful that our lives crossed paths in this lifetime,” Johnson added. “You were a beautiful, kind soul who always brightened a room with your smile and laughter. Love you bro.”
