Justin Roiland, co-creator, executive producer and star of the hit animated series Adult Swim rick and morty is no longer associated with the Warner Bros Discovery brand after serious allegations of domestic violence against him came to light earlier this month.

“Adult Swim has ended its partnership with Justin Roiland,” a spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

After Roiland’s exit, Rick and Morty will continue with the title characters, voiced by Roiland, recast.

The hit series co-created by Roiland and Dan Harmon received a massive 70-episode order in 2018, with Adult Swim also inking new long-term deals with Roiland and Harmon. The show, which was renewed for a 10th season, ran for six seasons, with four more to run as part of the pickup.

Roiland is also the co-creator/executive producer and voice actor of the Hulu animated series. Solar contrasts as well as the host’s animated comedy performer Koala man. News of his participation in those shows will be coming soon, I hear.

Roiland was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with bodily injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by threat, violence, fraud and/or deception by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The incident at issue against Jane Doe allegedly occurred in January 2020, according to the May 2020 complaint. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in October 2020. The semi-sealed case was kept from the public until the January 12, 2023 court hearing. Roiland, who was present, is also scheduled to attend the April 27 hearing.

No trial date has been set, but Roiland could face up to seven years in prison if convicted.

Roiland’s attorney has maintained that his client is innocent, noting that “we also have every expectation that this case will be dismissed once the district attorney’s office completes its methodical review of the evidence.”
