We deliver it. You deliver it. Whole families ship it right now. It really has been too long.
Imagine rooting for your favorite characters to get together. Watching them do this “will they not dance” for years; hearing “let it go, that’s never going to happen” or “let it go, this character isn’t even on the show anymore.” Imagine getting baited, getting your hopes up, crashing, getting baited again. Sounds like a nightmare. Or, you know, regular Tuesday Olivia Benson and Elliot Spencer shippers on Law & Order: SVU.
The newest SVU promo for Season 24, Episode 12 sent fans into a frenzy almost immediately, revealing a seemingly intimate moment shared by Olivia and Elliot. In the video, they are shown standing very close, leaning over each other, sharing what could be seen as a hug or kiss.
Bensler’s fans are more than willing to settle for an intimate moment of truth, though (hardly anyone believes the possibility of a casual steamy session with the two at this point). More important to Olivia and Elliot’s relationship is that they finally admit that they have feelings for each other; it’s to recognize each other, not their colleagues or people they happened to be drinking with. For them to actually admit it and work towards being together would be more than enough for Bensler’s fan base.
Law and Order: SVU Season 24 Episode 12 is scheduled to air on January 26. The wait is going to be excruciating, given that some fans are hoping Bensler won’t just happen for years; decades now. Some didn’t lose hope even after Christopher Maloney seemed to leave the show for good at the end of Season 12, and that hope was rewarded when Stabler eventually returned to SVU in Season 22.
Again, imagine clinging to that hope for years. And now, finally, being so close to the dream of your favorite characters coming together. After being burned so many times before, having huge trust issues, and realizing you’re basically traumatized by all the baiting. And yet, some Bensler fans still have it in them. Once again hoping for the best against all odds.
Do you know what this is, folks? This is loyalty and this is true love. And it’s time for the show to answer that.
