The highly anticipated Madonna biopic has been officially canceled by Universal Pictures. Agreed Varietybiopic was canceled due to the singer’s travel commitments Holiday tour – a world tour that will celebrate Madge’s song catalog spanning four decades.
The film was already considered the successor to recent biopics based on musicians Bohemian Rhapsody (about Freddie Mercury and Queen) and Rocketman (about Elton John). Alas, Madonna wanted to be very involved in her own biography, insisting that she wanted to make a movie about her life.
Julia Garner, best known for her role as Ruth Langmore Ozark and Anna Delvin Inventing AnnaMadonna was reportedly already cast. Many fans thought he was perfect for the role… but the project has now been shelved indefinitely.
Despite the very sad update regarding Madonna’s biography, the reason for this cancellation is that the singer is embarking on a world tour, which fans couldn’t be more happy and excited about. Holiday tour will run from July to December 2023, with dates across North America and Europe.
Unlike Madonna’s recent tours to promote her new albums, Holiday tour will feature songs from the singer’s endless catalog of hits. It’s truly set to be a celebration of Madge’s four decades in the music industry.
After the announcement of the tour, it was also revealed that RuPaul’s Drag Race the winner, Bob the Drag Queen, will be on Madonna’s tour. However, further details about Bob’s participation in the tour are still being kept under wraps.
