Winslet says her kids have minimal interest in watching her new movies, but they love the classic romance between Michael Gondry and Charlie Kaufman.
Becoming a movie star is no small feat, but it’s still a lot easier than making your kids think you’re cool. It’s something Kate Winslet seems to understand, as she often talks about how her three children have little interest in watching her new movies.
But the actress will take the wins where she can. In a new interview with People, Winslet said she was pleasantly surprised by how much her two children enjoyed one of her old movies, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
“Mia and Joe love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” love [it]and love the soundtrack,” Winslet said. “So every now and then I’ll hear Beck blasting from someone’s bedroom. I’ll be “It’s ‘Eternal Sunshine.’ So it’s kind of amazing.”
Winslet went on to explain that her children’s enthusiasm for the genre romance film has given her a new appreciation, as they often remind her of scenes she had forgotten.
“And that generation, there are specific lines of dialogue that they latch on to,” he said. “My kids and their friends will quote me. They will say: “Do you know who said that?” And I’ll say, “No. Who said that?’ And they’ll be, “You did it, Mom, like Clementine in Eternal Sunshine.” I’m like, “Oh my god, that amazing line.” So they kind of stick with these things that are really fun and certainly unexpected.”
Although Winslet said her kids aren’t particularly interested in watching many of her other movies, hopefully they can appreciate the physical feats she accomplished in Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the movie “Water Road”. The actress recently revealed that she learned to hold her breath for seven minutes for the film, to the point where she thought she was dead after the particularly long rehearsal.
“I have a video where I say, ‘Am I dead, am I dead?’ And then going, “What was that? [my time]?'” he said, “Right away I wanted to know my time. And I couldn’t believe it. . . . The next thing I say is, ‘We’ve got to set up a radio.’ I wanted Jim to know right away.”
