Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Michelle Pfeiffer are among the Hollywood stars who will not be attending this year’s Critics Choice Awards as scheduled after testing positive for COVID-19.
A rep for Farrell confirmed The Hollywood Reporter that Banshees of Inisherin The stars, who are nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively, will not be attending in person after contracting COVID-19. The news comes less than a week after the two attended Tuesday’s Golden Globes, where Pharrell won best actor in a comedy or musical.
The Searchlight Pictures film will take part in the Critics Choice Awards with nine nominations. That includes Farrell and Gleeson, as well as Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon; two for writer-director Martin McDonagh for best director and best screenplay; one for best picture; one for best ensemble cast; and one for Best Comedy.
Pfeiffer, who was expected to represent him The Fabulous Baker Boys Lifetime Achievement Award co-star Jeff Bridges shared the news on Instagram ahead of Sunday’s show. In his message, he expressed his sadness at not being able to attend in person before congratulating the evening’s nominees and celebrating Bridge’s talent.
“I’m so sorry I missed the Critics Choice Awards today,” she wrote. “Especially disappointed I didn’t get to see @thejeffbridges receive his Lifetime Achievement Award. Pauline Keil said it best. “He (Jeff) might be the most natural and least self-conscious actor who ever lived.” NEVER LIVE. That’s what all actors strive for, and Jeff hits it every time…with every role he stumbles into.”
Farrell and Gleeson aren’t the only candidates to miss out on awards after testing positive. Everything everywhere at once Star Jamie Lee Curtis revealed on Friday that she has tested positive and will not be able to cheer on her cast and crew at the awards show.
The Best Supporting Actress nominee took to Instagram to express her frustration about her diagnosis. “Fuck COVID! “Unfortunately, this cheerleader in chief isn’t going to be cheering on her friends and colleagues at all the weekend festivities,” she captioned a photo of the three positive tests. “Life on life’s terms”.
Proof of COVID testing and vaccinations, along with mask requirements, have been a mixed bag this awards season, with some events requiring nothing for their private ceremonies, while others, like the Globes and Critics Choice Awards, have required or testing, proof of vaccinations, or both.
The 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, take place on Sunday at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles and will air at 7pm ET on The CW.
