Chelsea Handler has addressed her split from Joe Coe

CNN:

Chelsea Handler opens up about her past relationship with comic Joe Coe.

In an episode of Brooke Shields’ “Now What?” In a podcast released Tuesday, Handler said she truly thought she would spend the rest of her life with Coe.

“I really believed that this was my son. I thought. “Oh my god, I won!” Like I got everything. I have my career, I have respect, I have my family, I have so many friends,” he said. “I have all these things. And then I thought, this is going to be the person I’m going to spend my life with.”

Handler said he was even open to the idea of marriage before the two parted ways after nearly a year together.

“I’m not that hard to get married, but I was open to the idea and we certainly discussed it at length because it was important to him,” she said. “And then, at the end of the relationship, it just became clear that it wasn’t me.”

He continued. “There were just certain behaviors we couldn’t agree on. I felt like I had to leave myself, which maybe I would have been fine to do if I was 20 or 25, but I wasn’t ready to do that. “No matter how much I loved this man, and I loved him so much, I wasn’t going to leave me,” Handler said. “I’m not going to change my behavior to make you feel more comfortable. I don’t and I had to walk away from what I truly believed was going to be a forever relationship. So it was difficult.”

Handler and Coy first met nearly 20 years ago, and she was a frequent guest on Handler’s former E! show, “Chelsea Lately”.

They announced that they were a couple in September 2021 and separated in July.

The two haven’t spoken recently, Handler added.

“There needs to be some responsibility on his part for what happened because it was just ridiculous and I don’t think we can have a friendship until there is some accountability and some responsibility is taken,” he concluded.
