On December 14th, Ethereum software company Consensys announced that the company has merged with payment processing giant Paypal. The integration allows Metamask wallet users to buy ethereum via Paypal from the Web3 wallet app.

Consensys has partnered with payments giant Paypal

Metamask users can now buy ethereum (ETH) using payment provider Paypal, according to Consensys. Financial technology company Paypal began offering cryptocurrency services in 2021, and the company’s CEO detailed that demand for the crypto has exceeded initial expectations.

Ethereum software company Consensys explained on Wednesday that it has partnered with Paypal, with the team further detailing that “Metamask will be the first Web3 wallet to use PayPal to enable more successful transactions.” Essentially, the partnership will allow users to use their Paypal account to buy ethereum (ETH) after the Metamask owner accesses the Paypal platform through the wallet.

Consensys’ blog post adds that Paypal integration with Metamask is just one of a “series of announcements” that will come with the Metamask mobile wallet. “This integration with Paypal will allow our US users to not only seamlessly buy crypto through Metamask, but also to easily explore the Web3 ecosystem,” said Lorenzo Santos, Product Manager at Metamask.

The partnership announcement follows controversial news of Consensys’ privacy policy detailing that the company collects specific data from Metamask users. Paypal has also been embroiled in controversy of late after the company mistakenly published a terms of service (ToS) document that said people spreading misinformation would be fined $2,500. However, Paypal claims that a ToS “notice recently went out in error containing incorrect information”.
