FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) — Three people were killed when a car traveling at high speed collided with another car on the 210 Freeway in Fontana, officials said.

The vehicle, a 2012 Ford, was traveling east on 210 west through Fontana when it crashed into a Lexus with two adults and three children inside around 6:30 a.m., according to the CHP. in:

The driver of the wrong-way Ford, a 23-year-old from Fontana, died at the scene. The driver of the Lexus, a 43-year-old man from Highland, and the 16-year-old female passenger of the Lexus were also killed.

There were three more passengers in the Lexus who were also seriously injured: a 5-year-old girl, a 3-year-old boy and a 42-year-old woman. All occupants of the Lexus were Highland residents, although it was not immediately known if they were family members. They were taken to local hospitals.

According to reports from CHP dispatchers, witnesses said the driver of the Ford swerved and crossed lanes and was driving at speeds of up to 100 mph before crashing near the Citrus Avenue exit.

The accident is under investigation.
